ABOUT US
OUR STORY
Omar’s Hi-Way Chef Restaurant is a favorite of the Locals. Located inside the Tucson Truck Terminal in Tucson, Arizona, the Triple T was founded by Ira T. and Sallie Sue Morris in 1954. In 1966 the truck stop moved from East Benson Hwy. to Interstate 10 at Craycroft Road (exit #268).
In 1996, Omar Ramirez came on board to run the Hi-Way Chef Restaurant. Ramirez is a Tucson native and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and was named Chef of the Year by the Southern Arizona Chef‘s Association in 1998. The Hi-Way Chef was featured on Food Network’s Top 5, 18 Wheel Meals segment where it was awarded the honor of being the Number 2 truck stop in the country. December, 2014, Tucson Newspaper readers voted Omar’s the Best Breakfast place in Tucson. We have also been highlighted in many newspapers, magazines, and trucking gazettes.
The menu at Omar’s Hi-Way Chef is a classic truck stop fare with an emphasis on 24/7 breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our entrée selections are diverse, offering plates representative of an American Bistro, a Mexican Cantina, and an Italian Trattoria combined under ONE roof making the menu one of the most extensive menus around. It features daily specials, tasty ground beef selections, and over-portioned breakfasts like the I-10 Belly Buster, the spicy Chorizo Con Huevos, the moon-sized pancakes, strawberry waffles, bacon and eggs cooked your way, and biscuits with cream gravy. On the lunch and dinner menus you will find a variety of burgers and sandwiches, chimichangas, burritos, taco or enchilada plates, taco salads, fried chicken, country fried steaks, chicken parmesan, fettuccine, and spaghetti with meatballs, just to name a few. Portion sizes are ample and we’ve often said, “If you leave hungry, you didn‘t order!” We are also kid-friendly and have a fifteen-item children’s menu that can be crayoned, eaten from, and then taken home.
The dessert selections begin with our signature dessert, the Deep Dish Hot Apple Pie, mounded with soft serve ice cream. This is the kind of dessert that has you craving it from 100 miles out. Also available are the peach and cherry deep-dish pies, ice cream desserts, cream pies, fruit pies, sweet rolls, lemon bars, cupcakes, cheesecakes, and many other varieties of cakes, pies, and pastries---most displayed at the bakery counter near the entrance to the restaurant.
Omar’s has a clean and friendly atmosphere with a staff that has been here for years. It is the kind of place where your Aunt Annie might have been pouring coffee, passing out pie, and giving advice when you were growing up.
The restaurant was recently remodeled and has a light, airy and fresh new look of soft greens and grays with booths of rainbow colors (there’s even a section near the front with pink booths and decor for anyone who loves pink). Classic and modern prints adorn many walls throughout.
During the remodel, a portion of the back section was designated for preparing adult beverages and is known as Sallie Sue’s Adult Beverage House. Sallie Sue’s is equipped with a state-of-the-art computerized bartender that is capable of mixing 600 different drinks; and beer is available in bottles or on tap.
Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout so you can catch up on your email or watch your favorite drama online. In fact, the truck stop’s Wi-Fi access runs out to the parking lot.
Whether you want breakfast, lunch, or dinner, whether you’re hungry day or night, whether you are desiring a full meal or an appetizer and a couple of beers, Omar’s Hi-Way Chef Restaurant is the place to go!
